For the First Time, Rạch Miễu Bridge Stays Clear on the First Day of the Sept. 2 Holiday
On Aug. 30, tens of thousands of people from Ho Chi Minh City and eastern provinces headed to the Mekong Delta to begin the four-day Sept. 2 National Day holiday.
Unlike previous years, when congestion was common, both Rạch Miễu Bridge and Rạch Miễu 2 Bridge remained clear on the first day of this year’s holiday.
From early morning to the afternoon, traffic across the bridges remained steady. By 6 p.m., there were no backups in either direction leading onto the bridges. Motorbike traffic was heavier than usual but still moved normally; notably, car traffic was also not much higher than on a normal day.
On National Highway 60 — the route leading to Rạch Miễu Bridge on the Tiền Giang side — each traffic light cycle cleared all waiting vehicles, with none of the gridlock commonly seen during past holidays and weekends.
Meanwhile, Rạch Miễu 2 Bridge also remained clear throughout Aug. 30. Toward the end of the day, traffic from Tiền Giang to Bến Tre increased sharply, but no congestion occurred.
The only spot where mild congestion was recorded was the Đồng Tâm intersection in Tiền Giang. This is the junction where vehicles from Ho Chi Minh City, after passing the Thân Cửu Nghĩa toll station, continue straight toward Rạch Miễu 2 Bridge. Because there are multiple traffic light phases and several intersecting traffic flows, traffic occasionally slowed, but not for long.
