Prologue, Honda’s New Sales 'Star'
USPrologue sales have tripled this year, accounting for much of the 50% increase in the company’s EV sales.
Sales at Honda and Acura rose 4.4% this year, but that may not be the most notable point in the latest sales report. The most significant change is that Honda’s EV sales surged more than 50% in the first half of the year, driven by the growing popularity of the all-electric Prologue.
Like fellow Japanese automaker Toyota, Honda has been a late mover in electrification, as it currently sells only one battery-powered model in the US, the Prologue. It is not even a fully in-house product, as it is built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Blazer EV and other General Motors models.
However, Honda offers hybrid options for several popular models, including the Civic, CR-V and Accord. In fact, demand for hybrids is rising, benefiting Honda.

In the first eight months of the year, Honda America, including the Honda and Acura brands, sold a total of 992,904 vehicles across the US, up 4.4% from the same period in 2024. In Honda’s product lineup, 306,252 of the 903,325 vehicles sold were electric vehicles, marking growth of 53.4% from the 199,597 EVs sold in the same period last year.
The popularity of the all-electric Prologue has outpaced even those figures. In the first eight months of 2024, 10,394 units were sold in the US. The following year, sales jumped 207.7% to 31,982 units.
August was also a successful month for the Prologue, with total sales of 9,347 units, up 73.1% from 5,401 in 2024. As with other automakers, much of this increase may have come from buyers rushing to act ahead of the September 30 deadline for the EV tax credit. All of this contrasts with Honda’s overall August result, which fell 4.9% to 121,633 units.
Even as the EV lineup’s strong growth is drawing attention, Honda’s long-running best-sellers remain the backbone of the brand. The CR-V is still Honda’s top-selling model. This year, 278,952 units were delivered to customers, up 3.7% from 268,947 in 2024. Behind the CR-V was the Civic with sales of 168,876 units, down 2.2% from 172,661 in 2024.
In the US, the Prologue is sold in two versions, FWD and AWD, both equipped with an 85-kWh Ultinum NCMA battery pack. The vehicle is priced at US$49,000-59,300.
